LACTULAX SYRUP is a constipation medicine that contains Lactulose. This drug is used to treat chronic constipation and portal-systemic encephalopathy, including hepatic pre-coma and hepatic coma.

General Indications
Chronic constipation. Portal-systemic encephalopathy, including hepatic precoma and hepatic coma.

Composition
Per 5 ml: Lactulose 3,335 grams

Dose
Chronic constipation : Initial dose for the first 3 days of therapy:
– Adult severe cases: 30 mL; moderate cases: 15-45 mL; mild cases: 15 mL.
– Children 6-14 years: 15 mL; 1-5 years: 5-10 mL, infants aged less than 1 year: 5 mL.
Supporting dose:
– Adult severe cases: 15-25 mL, moderate cases: 10-15 mL, mild cases: 10 mL.
– Children 6-14 years: 10 mL, 1-5 years: 5-10 mL, infants under 1 year: 5 mL. Hepatic coma and pre-coma : Daily maintenance dose :
– Adult : 10-25 mL
– Children 7-14 years : 10 mL; 1-6 years: 5-10 mL
– Infants less than 1 year: 5 mL.

How to use
May be given with or without food.

Attention
Use caution in patients with Diabetes Mellitus and galactosemia. Not to be used > 1 week. Pregnancy Category : Category B: May be used by pregnant women. Studies in animal studies have not shown any risk to the fetus, but there is no direct research evidence in pregnant women.

Contra indication
Patients who are hypersensitive to drug components, galactosemia, and intestinal obstruction

Side effects
Flatulence, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea (at high doses).
